Its up to the Software Developers - Java Shines
It was only 10 years ago when folks who were concerned about the quality of software coding first layed out the API specification, language and virtual machine specification we know as Java.

Java was developed in anticipation of where Intel is today. The notion of threading which is needed to take advantage of multicore is so fundamental to Java that it is almost impossible to write a simple Java program that does not create and use threads.

There will now be a furry of development activity regarding threaded programs to exploit Woodcrest and the growing number of computers that have multiple processors. Those who have done their development in Java will find as I have that Applets shine on clients because the applet is already threaded and the database access on the server can be made so. Fast access that gets even faster on the new servers because of multi-core represents a real threat to the core business of Microsoft unless management has a plan B it has been working on to make its code libraries as thread save as those in Java.
