- I'm glad.

So apparently either Apple chooses more reliable components from the same companies or their OS and software work more reliably with the same hardware.
Do you have any links, sources, reviews, or ANYTHING to back up that statement?
Take your pick, Apple is still better.
I guess not.
So my apparent inability to maintain a PC caused all those hard drive, motherboard, processor, memory, power supply, USB subsystem, monitor, keyboard, and mouse problems.
I'm extremely sad to hear you seem to have had the brunt of all of those hardware problems. See, in my time working with PC's, I've had a single CPU fan and a single 1 GB DIMM fail on me.
In addition to that, I never said anything about hardware, other than that Apple and Dell (and other PC companies) generally get all of it from the same folk. You're just determined to explain to me that, for some inexplicable reason, it's "better." Even Apple's propaganda... I mean... "commercials" don't even make that claim. You should send that one in.
First off, I was the support person and thus not responsible if the user put an electromagnet next to his/her computer.
So, the hardware you mentioned above is a list of all the components you have had to assist users with, being the support guy?
Secondly, if it was my poor skills, why didn't the Macintoshes suffere just as much?
Because they're running completely different software, which was what my statement; "Unless you actually know how to properly maintain a PC, in which case you don't get problems," was aimed towards.
Nice try, though.
Try again, skippy.
Clever.
Ummmm... the Macs were replaced less often because they ran standard software longer, and thus needed to be replaced less often.
Because they ran "standard software longer?" Give me a break. For one, software that has run on a machine will always run on the same machine. Secondly, PC's are generally ahead of Macs in terms of the speed curve (even with the Intel Core Duos), and thus they would be able to run higher-end software, faster. The superior performance also gives PC's the advantage in terms of future-proofing. A simple HP could humble an iMac very quickly, and it can be upgraded.
Macs are purchased with a certain hardware configuration, and beyond the occasional memory upgrade, they'll stay that way. With an HP or a Dell, you can add PCI cards, more memory, new hard drives, new optical drives... the works. And on top of that, the PC can still go sailing past the iMac in terms of performance.
Also, recent studies have shown that comparably equipped Macs cost 10 - 15% more than PCs. That doesn't really square with your phrase "ludicrously expensive," does it?
While it's awfully nice of recent studies to put that information forth, I'm inclined to point out that, on occasion (Coupon Gods willing...), I can get a Dell Inspiron E1705 almost maxed out, hardwarewise (2.16 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 100 GB 5400 RPM HDD, Geforce Go 7900 GS, HD audio, 3-year warranty) for about as much as the stock 17" MacBook Pro.
Congratulations. Should only take you two or three minutes to download this post on that thing.
It'd take seconds, actually. It's quite snappy.
Most companies are throwing away hardware better than what you described; so why wouldn't I just use that?
You were the one who said, quote: "Macs last longer than PCs." I aimed to debunk that. Thanks for playing.
Did you miss the part where I told you I've supported and used both PCs and Macs for years? Guess that was an oversight on your part.
How so? It's very apparent to me that, regardless of your expertise in either, you're of the opinion that the Macintosh is a superior platform than that of the PC. I'm challenging that.
But *all* the Macintosh users I know are happy with their computing experience.
I hated mine.
But even I love it when people I know buy Windows PCs. Because inevitably, it means a consulting job that runs at least $150 to clean up the pop-ups, viruses, or hardware failures they encounter.
Oh? See, I don't charge any money when people ask me to fix their computers... and when I fix them, they don't have problems again.
Have a fantastic night. - Posted by: A_Pickle Posted on: 05/22/06 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
