beef along with pork would have been forbidden since biblical time. Naturally occuring diseases normally do not crop up suddenly (within a decade or so). You may be correct, but my bets are on the shortcuts taken to increase "profitability" for food production. Cows are not carnivours by nature and would/have not eaten meat byproducts in past centuries. Remember the source of the "food" products in the movie "Soilent Green"?
