Just some thoughts
First no one has whined about fair use. They are whining about buying an HDTV and DVD player that won't work in few years because it's missing this anti piracy technology that won't stop piracy in the slightest.

It's pointless venture. Up until now people always taped TV shows sans comercials and copied gave those to friends. Yet you still see consumers buying Friends season 1 DVDs. At any time you could record that show directly to you're harddrive and burn it CD.

collector are the ones who buys the DVDs of TV shows. Collectors require the original. A tape was never good enough and neither will a burned DVD or a collection files on harddrive.

You other point. Digital TV has be slowed by money. It's TV and people are happy with what they have. Where I live a 36" normal TV costs $700.00 while 34" HDTV cost $2300.00. The average consumer can't justify a little quality for for over 3 times the price to get a smaller TV. That is the challenge of digital TV faces.

The big danger is not someone copying a digital TV show and distributing it. The real danger is those people who obtain satalite or cable illegally. It's a million times easier to buy a black market card or chip for you satalite or digital reciever that gets 500 channels than it is to individually hunt down and download digital TV shows.
