Somewhere they lost it
You mean details like their crap service? If success is in details like that, then Dell's best sucesses are behind them.

Maybe it's events like this: "Over the years, it has recruited a number of established executives to fill positions and to mentor Dell himself."

Pull in established executives and your company starts to look and act like every other company out there. Focus on quarterly numbers over customer satisfaction, saving a buck instead of making a better product. Same thing happened to MS. They started to change when they started seeing their customers as a revenue stream instead of people.

Maybe the "established executives" are too far from the customers and insulated by too many people kissing their a**. Which explains why the established executives currently in government seem to live in a different world than the rest of us. I wish they really did live in a different world. Preferably one many, many miles from here.
