Ideology should be kept out of schools.
Reprehensible.

As the spokesman admitted, the primary reason for using Linux was philosophical. Advocacy against anything for which money might have to be paid. He's even turn down free software from proprietary companies because it's impure.

The only good news is that this campaign againsty capitalism has gone nowhere else. All the other schoolds ignore him and he can't understand it. He lives in a "black hole", as he calls it.

Quoting:
"People are talking about it but are still way behind," he said. "Everyone's interested in teaching a word processor, but not interested in a political statement. The deep technology literacy issue is not even discussed."

Yes, instead of computers people should be interested in making a "political statement". Instead of learning to use a word processor, which might help obtain or facilitate a job, people should hear him expound endlessly. Then they will have "technological literacy".

What are the rules? Can the students start to gain useful information about computers, or must this small school suffer from his ranting and advocacy for years to come?

Perhaps the students are in fact condemned. He did say there's no supervision, no one to insist that the school behave appropriately.

LU, that's a story both tragic and aggravating. I'm sorry I had to read it. I'm even more sorry the students have to suffer it.
