There's far more to a device that just hardware specs. The point
isn't that all Q1 buyers will all be won over by LifeDrive, but
rather that there are existing devices that meet many
requirements of those that are looking for small, capable,
independent computing devices like the Q1.

What desktop applications are you going to run? Remember that
the Q1's display is only 800x480px, so only just more than twice
the size of a LifeDrive. It also only has a 40GB disc, by the time
you install Windows and a bunch of Office apps, that will shrink
pretty darn quick (an iPod vastly more disc space if that's what
you really want). Same for RAM - 512MB running Windows will
disappear quicker than the LifeDrive's 64MB running Palm OS.
Neither device is a multi-media powerhouse, so you are left with
business apps.

You can open and edit Office docs on a LifeDrive and do most
things any business user would want. There are literally tens of
thousands of Palm applications specifically targetted at business
users and designed to run on small screens.

Sure it's an Xscale processor, but that is an architecture licenced
from ARM and delivers far more bang per Hz than Intel's
Celeron. For business users, the vastly better battery life, much,
much smaller format and considerably lower price (less than
half) must be compelling in comparison. It also fits in a suit coat
pocket and weighs just 190g.

BTW, I don't expect LifeDrive sales to soar as a result, but rather
wish to point out that Q1-style devices will likely not do any
better than tablet PCs or PDAs, since they are somewhere in
between they won't suit either market. They will just fragment a
small market even further (and Newton owners will feel
vindicated).
