The chips themselves are unique, it s the process used to make them which is being claimed.

Indeed, it would be whimsical, had the University of Winsconsin have succeeded in coming up with a chip that was going to be perfect for use in a machine that wasn't going to be built for another decade and a half:
Professor A: "Brilliant, my new symetrical multi-bogobundler can package fifteen trillion bogomucksits each nanozoobler!"
Professor B: "Excellent! What does that mean, then?"
Professor A: "F*cked if I know! Lets wait for some Japanese frim to find a use for it, and then we'll sue their asses off!"
