Intel + MultiCore
I think Intel is in such a rush to deliver a 4 core processor just for the sole reason of bragging rights. As many tests show having 2 dual core Opteron processors vs 2 dual core Xeon Processors shows AMD leading by margins of 40 - 50% all while running cooler, consuming less power, and the servers costing less. That is why many businesses and datacenters are moving to them. So Intel feels in their warped little reality if they release a 4 core processor they may win some of those losses back. Little do most business know that Intel processors are still held back by a huge bottleneck called Front Side Bus and it communication to memory. So basically AMD may release a 4 core processor after Intel, but AMD will do it right the first time.
