Intel always does better with good competition. The threat from IBM (Power PC), Samsung (Flash), AMD (copycat+ ) and Transmeta all produced great products. It just takes a carrier longer time to respond than, say a canoe like AMD... but when it turns,...watch out.
As far as the comment ..."Some of the early steps look a little icky--this is glued onto that like with Pentium D--but they did get it out pretty quickly."
No really, who cares how the sausage is made. As long as it tastes good and priced right. The Pentium D at $120 is a GREAT deal.
