Apparently, you do not know much about the company's history. This is not the first time the company has been in hot water. They did at one point lose 30% of the market. They came back with a vengnece and AMD market share dropped to less than 10%. AMD can not bury Intel becuase AMD does not have the manufacturing muscle to do so. Intel did not want to force AMD out of the business when it could have in the past for two reasons, one is so they do not become a monopoly and two, because IBM prevented them from doing so. (IBM knows that one big processor company is a threat to their business model.) There is also this bad Gene in AMD's DNA. They do have great products but they always stumble on execution. This time, it could be different but AMD still does not have Intel muscle (the manufacturing one). And that is a big disadvantage if Intel decides to have a price war! What we know for sure is that Intel is brining the war to AMD land in few weeks. Intel will win performance and performance per, the only edge AMD has now, for few months. Mix that with a competitive price and see what HP and IBM will do. They will drop AMD in a heart beat. Why? For one, they want the marketing dollars from Intel and two, their customers will look for the best in performance and performance per watt. This will shrink or squeeze the bottom line of AMD until their eyes pop up. One thing will give some Oxygen to AMD, that is, IBM (again).The next few months will be interesting!
