No...there's leverage they can use
You miss the point: an open-sourced Solaris with some differentiating features over Linux can become a sales lever for Sun. Good customer experience with it can translate into "full stack" sales including hardware. It's a means of providing customers with a good Sun experience at not cost to the customer, and good customer experiences generally translate into future sales.
