- Dell computers for Home Use
-
Now, I finally know Dell's (or even Michael's own) priorities. While I certainly admire Dell's achievement over a little more than a decade, I have no idea why they so aggressively go after the home-computer market. So far, tbeir customer service for corporate users is still acceptable, and I have worked with Dell hardware for 12 years.
Therefore, I thought I would be safe to "go Dell" when a new home computer was due. Was I ever in for a surprise! I have a lemon sitting here which was produced (sort of) in China. Their telephone support comes directly from India, yeah the one in Asia, and is manned by very good and eager computer specialists. Unfortunately, there is a language problem and, after two years, I still do not understand them, so I have given up on India, right after I have given up on the China lemmon. Dell went right from super-hardwae and super-service to super-nothing. That must increase Dell's profits enormously and quickly. Any kind of warranty has, for Dell, become an advertising flyer, and I have no idea how long Dell still gets away with the equipment prices they advertise on T.V. Does anyone really believe one could get a functioning system for around $700? Now, if all that was not enough, even their "local" (I live in Canada) staff has become nasty, and they do not even hide their disdain for any customer request anymore. That, strangely, includes even the salespeople who sit around at the toll-free order numbers. Dell also sells peripherals. The disdain Dell staff has for those is beyond description. A printer I ordered with the computer came without a manual. So, I called Dell and asked for one. The "Dell Solution": they could not send me a manual, but they could send me a box with another new printer because such box would then contain the manual. So, I stayed home for two days waiting for the action (I already had repackaged the brandnew printer because that one had to go back, so I could take possession of a new one WITH a manual). This is not a sick joke, this is Dell's modus operandi. Do I believe in Dell's growth? Of course, I do. If they can report growth figures with the new "Dell way to treat a client," then anything is possible. But, then again, bigger empires than the one Michael built have crumbled and, in each case, it started with similar treatment like Dell is dishing out now. I will buy a new system from somebody else, and the Dell computer is ready for the garbage can. I would not even want to give that clunker to the Salvation Army (something I usually do with my old computers). - Posted by: Holger178 Posted on: 07/14/06 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
