Onchip fiber
is closer to science fiction at the moment, but there
are many places where fiber could replace expensive multi-
channel metalic point-to-point busses. I believe that we
will see this approach very soon. Several vendors had
worked on this in the last decade but the research was
selved.

Also don't forget existing fiber based products, such as, the
10GbEthernet and of the Infiniband, etc. to the 10Gb/sec
BWs. There have been ethernet products since 2 years ago.
Fiber will get commonplace soon in the high-end outide
the network communication.
