As the 1st step
I see modules in rack mounted units, interconnected by
optical fiber. The current approach is multi-line metalic
buses that cost somewhere 5,000-10,000 apiece!

Fiber Optical based transmission has been used in the
telecommunications/telephone industries for several years
now and many of the highspeed trasnsmission problems
are under control. The entice of Terabyte/sec is way to
strong not to appeal to computer makers to use it
somewhere. And there are many places where higher BW is
needed.
