in some instances you may be correct but where I live there is no cable and DSL is owned by the Local phone company a little compitetion would be welcome. so that others may be able to have a better connection than dial up. Optic fiber is not everywhere yet. Nor is cable. BPL would be a good alternative. Some Electric Companies are already reading your meters over the electric lines. It is the same technology.
