My theory
Most of the people who post here work in IT and have had to deal with multiple computer vendors over their career. I do, and I have, and my experience is that pretty much ALL PCs are unreliable peices of crap. I've yet to find a vendor that makes PC's that don't have a 15% failure rate over three years.

In any other industry a 15% failure rate would be completely unacceptable, but with PC's people are willing to put up with it because it means a much cheaper product.

For the home user who doesn't deal with tons of new PC's every year, they may never realize how completely unreliable PC's are in general because they may go years without having anything fail in their PC.

Dells are no more reliable that Gateways or HPs or Toshibas or [insert favorite PC vendor]. The difference between all of the various vendors is service, and when you work in IT and you are your own suport, and have to deal with service staff that don't know half of what you do about computers, it can get very frustrating.
