I've also had rare problems with Dells (these last six years at work). Had major harddrive, monitor and power problems with Gateways (mid 90's), and the only thing I liked about Gateway at the time was tech support people (friendly and acknowledged that my diagnosis of problems was usually on the nose).

Seems if the article isn't about a favorite company, it becomes a noted hated company. Mileage varies.
