SUN giving away technology is sign of desparation
Give away Solaris, give away Sparc. These are signs of desparation. They have no clear mission as to whether they are a HW company or a SW company.

They HAD a tremendous opportunity to make Solaris widely available with support from Intel, DELL and HP. They BLEW it.

They chose AMD to head off Intel Itanium and dropped Intel X86 to not give Intel any money. Well done, you just killed any chance for widespread Solaris adoption, you idiot McNeally.

Sparc is now a declining % of your revenue and sapping your resources although very profitable. You are stuck selling AMD boxes at DELL prices and bleeding to death. WTF does SUN want to be?

The end is near. Giving away technology on the hope of adoption is a sure sign of desparation. Microsoft is comming in for the Solarix kill in 3Q of this year. DELL, HP, IBM takes care of Sparc and their AMD based server business.

Good grief, the SUN board of directors are under McNeally's thumb. Terrible.
