As an owner of an Alienware laptop
I would caution any company that is thinking about aquiring Alienware.

My IT department purchased five Alienware Area51m laptops in 2004, and ALL FIVE OF THEM have had go back - all of them with different hardware issues. Two of them, including mine have had to go back twice. Their turnaround approaches three weeks when you send a laptop into them for repair.

If you log onto their forums (you have to be a customer to do so) and post a complaint, there is a good chance it will get deleted. I posted a thread about an issue (read: Design flaw) I had that thousands of other customers had also been having, and it disappeared within hours with no explanation.

Their tech support is completely outsourced, and a call to them averages at least one hour, even if the problem is totally obvious.

The one thing I like about Alienware is that ,my laptop is FAST. We recently bought a few "high-end" laptops from HP and my "old" Alienware from 2004 still spanks them performance-wise.

Alienwares are kind of like those exotic eurpopean cars. Their performance is superb - when they're not in the shop.
