Makes Some Sense
Dell, like every other "Main-Stream" Box builder, has hit that wall of profitability in the box market. THe real revenue comes from the high-end market, servers, gaming PC's and bleeding edge technology. Dell's profits have flattened, their revenue stream is still coming from the same places, and there is not a lot of wiggle room in this business to find other revenue-generating opportunities outside of the service sector (where Dell has no chance of competing without some aquisitions). Dell's only hope to bring back the heydays of PC building is to follow Wal-Mart's lead, put the other guys out of business, and once you have no competition, do what you want with your pricing structure. Even if this isn't a current prospect, I bet you can believe Dell's board and management have discussed just such aquisitions plenty of times.
