Would be nice...
if for nothing else the people who spent this much their professional lives working on this stuff get some sort of satisfaction in the end. I also think if something can for real be generated int he meantime all the better. Itanium is pretty powerful and there is not many other CPU's which could do what it does. It is a sham that Intel's grand teabags ultimately decide the Itanium happenings based on their tee times and stock portfolio dog and pony shows for the non-sensical masses of uncaring financial hordes.
