Marketing effort for new products to keep you buying
This is really nothing but a marketing effort to produce another new and slightly different product to keep consumers buying. They have to continiously change or they wouldn't sell half as much stuff.

If i had every computerized device out there in every size I might have...

I could keep my PDA in one pocket...
...My old trusty laptop on one shoulder
...My tablet for those other jobs...
..My new "UMPC" for those other few things where my pda is just a little too small, but my tablet a little too big, and my laptop not portable enough...
...How about my MP3 player?...
...oh yeh, and my portable video player....
...Or maybe my smartphone?...
..not to mention my old fashioned cell phone for those other calls...

I know each of these products have some usefullness, but consumers overzelously jump on the bandwagon everytime something new and "great" debues. Microsoft, amoung other manufacturers, are just hoping we'll all do it once again.
