Pig with lipstick
I use to develop software for HP100lx palmtops. These were very sucessful hand helds based on the DOS operating system and Skytell paging system. The Internet Browser was Lynx, a server based product and you got months of power from two AAA batteries. Text based messaging was as easy as today's cell phones.

For Pig products to make it in the consumer market you first have to eliminate superior products. This isn't hard to do if you have 40 billion in cash. You don't have to off anyone, just make them a multi-millionaire.

I have long wondered if Microsoft paid HP to stop supporting the HP 100lx. They were trying to get WinCE to be supported and HP did come out with WinCE products and outsourced all the HP 100lx support to Singapore or something. Bill Gates personally purchased SkyTell and that service was discontinued.

The ways of win-at-any-cost often involve consumer's and developers paying. This is why there are governments. Lets hope the new take-charge-congress leads the US to the happy path, which likely involves a sea-change for Microsoft.
