- Choice versus consolidation
-
---If you happen to be one of the millions that feel they have
been ripped off and didn't want to do business with them, to
danged bad!!!---
Where are all these millions of users who have been ripped off?
All I see are people who signed a contract, and the company
that's buying out AT&T intends to honor that contract. How is
that a rip off? Has there been some sudden change in service, or
drop in quality? How can you declare something like this before
any change whatsoever has occured?
More to the point, you are a strong proponent of market
consolidation and the use of standards to improve the quality of
service seen by customers. You often cite the idea that
Microsoft's dominance of the operating system field is a good
thing, as it allows programmers to work on a common system,
and allows customers to interact and know exactly what they're
getting every time.
Why is that a bad thing in this case? Personally, I don't think a
monopoly is a good situation for customers, but I do think that
in this market, some consolidation is a good thing. America has
been years behind the European and Asian markets in terms of
cel phone technology and service. A lot of this has to do with 1)
Geography--America is a really big place to try and cover with
service, and 2) the lack of cooperation between companies,
resulting in lots of small companies trying to cover that huge
area all on their own. Narrowing the field down to a group of
several major players will at least help customers by increasing
coverage areas by uniting the smaller networks into bigger ones. - Posted by: tic swayback Posted on: 02/23/04 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
