Yep. Conroe, which won't become available till roughly 2007 appears to be maybe 20% to 40% quicker than an AMD chip which has been shipping in volume since January.

Did ya know that if we compare that AMD chip to last year's best effort from Intel, the AMD is lots faster?

Is it at all possible that given AMD will be moving from 90 nm to 65 nm and going to an AM2 socket in the same timeframe as Conroe, they just might see a performance gain above where their Jan 06 chip was running?

Heck, AMD has been purposely going slow on rolling out AM2 because they didn't _need_ it to be beating Intel. Decisions like that allow you to have a whole stack of improvements ready whenever the competition finally gives you a serious challenge.
