Re: Preacher Shade
>>> Joseph, I can't help but call you reverend because you
support Apple with such religious fervor. >>>

Unlike your numerous posts to contradict and argue any point in
Apple?s/Mac?s favour happy

And since you?ve made mention you work for a major OEM,
you?re not exactly a neutral observer or critic. Care to name your
employer or which computer/brand you sell?

>>> For the record, I believe that Apple is a brilliant marketing
machine. The have a customer loyalty that is to be admired. That
is where their brilliance and innovation lies. >>>

Apple may be good, but Microsoft is THE master at marketing PR
and BS. It?s become not much more than a marketing and
acquisition company.

And loyalty also comes from generally good products and
service (recently, Apple has always rated at the top in customer
surveys while the likes of Dell has slipped (Consumer Report, PC
magazines)). Not just blind loyalty but loyalty for good reason.

>>> Now when you look at their products, they just don't
measure up to the hype! >>>

Rather a general, sweeping statement considering the success
and rave reviews (?neutral? reviewers besides expected Mac-
oriented reviewers) for products such as the iPod/iTunes and
iMac (the G5 towers and Xserves aren?t exactly slouches either).

>>> The Mac Mini is a slick package arround ho hum parts yet
the Cult of the Mac will call it innovative and the perfect Media
Center Solution. >>>

It is what it is? a ?cheap? Mac, something the Wintel crowd has
whined about for years. It is a slick, minimalist package that
others had found various uses for that Apple had not
originally intended (or at least hyped), ie, media centre
, in-
car computer (dashboard or hidden in the glove box), etc. The
small, clean form factor could be considered innovative as, IIRC,
when it first came out, you tried to compare it to ?PC? mini?s
(Shuttle?) which were generally a joke, ie, larger and/or ugly
and/or half the features and/or more expensive, etc. And to top
it off, you pointed to a site that used graphics (Aqua tabs and
buttons) lifted directly off the Apple web site! Talk about irony.

I don?t see many (any?) calling it the ?perfect Media Center
Solution?. It may be a start but?

>>> They'll ignore the fact that Steven Jobs dismissed the whole
idea of convergence when Microsoft and Intel started down that
path. >>>

Times, tastes and consumer demands change and any
successful company addresses those changes. Besides, perhaps
Apple was simply hiding it?s true intent for a competitive
advantage. That?s the reason from MS (Allchin himself) why
recent beta versions of Vista looked like crap and were ?feature
bare?. Supposedly, MS didn?t want all those copycat Linux users
or those at Apple stealing all of MS?s ?innovative? ideas. Sure.

>>> Don't get me started on what he said about the superiority
of the PPC over x86 before he went with Intel or what he said
about people not wanting to watch video on a two inch screen
before he launched the Video Ipod. >>>

When he talked up the PPC, it was superior in many ways (a
stock Mac G5 cluster (running OSX) temporarily held 3rd place
as the world?s fastest computer at a fraction of the cost and
effort vs numbers 1 & 2 ($6 million vs over $300 & $200
million).

Funny how the Wintel camp, often boasting about speed
superiority as if it was the only criteria, had to go silent once
Intel dropped the ?speed is everything? mantra after the
introduction of the Centrino. Since then, processor speed is
rarely highlighted in computer ads or hyped by the
manufacturers.

Are you suggesting technology never changes? Competitors
never surpass each other? Tell that to Intel and AMD.

Apple was waiting for IBM?s promised faster and low-heat (read
?laptop friendly?) G5 which never materialized so, since laptops
appeared to be out-selling desktops, Apple made the only sane
business decision and went with Intel (more promising future
products/roadmap). Sorry Apple?s business acumen doesn?t
mesh with yours.

Re ?people not wanting to watch video?? see above. Time and
demands change plus keep competitors in the dark.

>>> You seem to have a problem with what you call Microsoft's
lies but don't seem to apply the same standard to Apple. >>>

All companies ?lie? (exaggerate) to some extent? Marketing
101.

There?s a world of difference in the way MS operates and the lies
told and methods used (deemed anti-competitive and illegal by
a federal court) vs Apple. One, it's way of doing business, the
other, part of marketing.

If you really can?t see or admit that, it?s obvious who the real
zealot and cultist is.

And you conveniently ignored any of my posts content re forced
use vs actual user choice relating to those wondrous 90%+
Windows market share numbers always thrown around.
