Dear DonnieBoy:
I assume you have never traveled or lived extensively abroad. If you had, you might be aware of the incredible anger and hostility towards the US for DECADES of (Republican and Democratic) foreign policy that supports despots throughout the world, and suppresses real democracy. You can't name a real democracy we've "nurtured" or grown elsewhere - because there ain't one - anywhere.

Perhaps if we actually honored a treaty we helped negotiate, or a took a principled stand about arms sales, or sought to boost wages and environmental standards abroad, or once in a blue moon did something that could be perceived in the interests of the planet, even our allies could support us, but we can't, and so they won't.

The amount of potential diplomatic and political goodwill that GWBush squandered after 9-11 is incalculable, and your children and mine will be paying for it with their lives and their anxiety for years and years to come.

From an American (and a native NY'er who lost friends in the Towers) who lives in Europe now ... Just read something besides the mainstream press that just sucks up to whomever is in power - otherwise, how could they get any "scoops"? (They're all too lazy to really dig for news and work, they'de rather have it show up on their desks, and otherwise they might be denied such "privilidged access" to their sources for reporting negatively.)
