Cell, Itanium, Alpha... yada yada yada
There is a reason that these remarkable architectures don't go further than the big dog mainframe purchasers and stream down into the main. X86 still works and still improves. It's been described as an old horse on it's last leg. Well, think of it as that, but being held up on robot stilts with cybernetic implants.

Cell is all pretty and glistens with performance, but it isn't practical in terms of current standing technology and IBM's marketing campaign is a joke. Itanium's been a waste of money since the early 90's, especially since Intel can't get "transitional" x86 performance to make it worth moving to. Alpha, well I don't know enough about that to say anything. X86 is here to stay, at least until we get to the "Star Trek" era, so live it up.
