It was web prices I was comparing
The problem I ran into was that the base system was about the same but when I added in a good gaming video card and extra RAM and HD space to the DIY it kicked the price way up while the manufacturers were throwing them in as free upgrades.

As for the price of Windows, I've got an MSDN Universal subscription so I've got that covered.
