Wrong... twice

Kindly leave the year 1996 and join us here in 2005. Ever since the Athlon, AMD has provided a better price/performance ratio than Intel. Sure, K6 buyers were searching for the lowest price and not much more.

But AMD now offers better performance than Intel -- and all their chips are less expensive than Intel's. That doesn't make AMD customers bottom feeders; it makes them smarter consumers.

Second, you wrote of Intel and RDRAM: "...albeit a noble attempt by Intel to advance the PC platform with state of the art memory."

Rambus RAM was not then, nor wouldit ever have been an advance in computer memory. The RDRAM debacle was actually Intel's attempt to control the PC platform by requiring a license for any company that wanted to make a motherboard or memory for computers with their chips.

And if you want to express your gratitude for that not coming to pass, you have one company to thank for it -- AMD. If they hadn't introduced the Athlon around the time Intel was trying to close the PC architecture, Windows PCs would cost 1.5 to 2 times what they now cost.
