"...that AMD CPU's tend to be lower in price to their comparable cousins from Intel..."
I would agree that AMD boxes tend to be priced generally cheaper by the PC manufacturers. This is because consumers are willing to pay a premium for the Intel brand and PC manufactures aren't stupid. Historically, AMD shoppers tend to be the bottom feeders of the price range.
"...Second, Intel encouraged the use of RD-RAM for its P4 processors..."
Wow, in PC space, that is ancient history but you are right that RDram was a fiasco, albeit a noble attempt by Intel to advance the PC platform with state of the art memory. Consumers don't like that, they want CHEAP. BTW, I also got burned by buying AMD's 3DNow 'accelerated' applications that went nowhere.
"...Intel doesn't clearly address the power consumption rate. As others have commented, "how do we know where AMD will be then?", addressing Intel's puported %20 perfomance gain..."
Well, gotta disgree there. The whole point of this article is that power consumption is religion at intel and they clearly have the lead now and for the foreasable future. I'm afraid that AMD will have to revert to cranking up the clock (and power) in order to compete on performance. You will start to see less Hype from them around power consumption because that will be a losing argument in 2H06 through most of 2007.
I guess we both agree on Apple. This is a fantastic entrant based on X86 that will drive the old PC guys to get creative. It's good for everyone. - Posted by: Prognosticator Posted on: 02/18/06 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
