So what happened to itanium
Right now, AMD is kickng arse on the mid low level server line. By the time Intel delivers this new chip who knows where AMD will be. Whats important is that AMD has surpassed Intel and now they both must compete, which means:

ding ding ding beter prices for the performance. Some actual competition for chips in the PC market. And by the way, before Intel touts their next gen chip, lets actually praise it when its out on the market and not several years before its even released.
