I spoke regarding the masses.
I was in Jamaica'a Middle class (which is quite different from America's middle class) and a $100.00 computer that could hook up to a TV set was something to be considered. (Others I know of in that category got systems such as the Sinclair Z1000.)

For me, those were not good enough because they did not run the apps I wanted --mostly compilers.

I knew a fair number of upper middle class people and upper class people so I got access to IBM PCAT's and IBM PCXTs and Tandy TRS-80s and Texas Instruments TI-99s. I later got access to 386s and 486s. My first computer was a 486. I got it when my fathers PC died and he needed one for his business. My Uncle in Texas sent him down one faster than a replacement motherboard came so when he got his new one and his replacement mobo came, I fixed the old one and kept it.

THe masses will not be so easy. If you can price a PC at US$25 for the low income masses, they would rather spend that money on food, kerosene, school clothes, new pots and pans, etc.
