There are both financial and physical access barriers.

I see the $100 MIT Laptop succeeding at giving access--that will happen.

I see Thin Client solutions as a 'sensible' way to lower costs, which in turn gives accessibility in many settings.

The core libraries of NX (www.nomachine.com) 'Thin Client', for example, are provided under GPL as 'FreeNX' (http://freenx.berlios.de/) and can give access with a suitably configured low-cost 'dumb' PC to a central server Desktop of hosted applications.

This effectively allows terminals to be located 'anywhere' in the world without regard to the geographic location of the server!

The benefits of 'Thin Client', especially NX, are manifold!

To gain a better appreciation of what NX does, please take the time to read this article!:

NX folks!

God Bless Gian Filippo Pinzari!
