a couple points.
AKAIK, the Itanium is a RISC type architecture... heck even the current Athlon and P4 chips are basicaly risc chips, that just have the older layers on top for compatability.
I dunno what you mean by price for th ereal world, since those power4 and power5 chips were pretty much meant for the big iron systems. I think IBM does sell power4 based servers running SUSE linux, so youdo already have that choice.
