The Itanium processor is not in the least bit threatened by the launch of a X86 compatible chip from Intel. They are not competing in the same market space. Once there are a sufficient number of applications exploiting the Itanium architecture, The Itanium will kick the cr@p out of both x86 architectures. By the way the AMD 64 chips are nice but they haven't come close to costing Intel it's dominant position in the processor wars.
