NPT didn't invent ANYTHING!!
If you research the company, you would discover that they are ever worse than they appear in this dispute. NPT's only assets are various patents. It's a company that goes around and buys these patents from little people (like the guy who posted elsewhere in this thread) and then wait for some successful implementation. The person who filed disputed 'blackberry' patents is not even alive anymore.

There are just sleazy lawyers (not a broadside against the profession; I know some great guys who are tax lawyers) who figured an easy way to make truckloads of money by legally blackmailing innovative companies.
