Why the negativity? eBay will drive this to success....
There's plenty of capable Sun Sparc-based equipment around...which previously wouldn't have been touched because it required Solaris and its licensing to run. Now that Solaris is open-source...purchasing some of that equipment second-hand is looking like a good option, especially for startups or small/mid-sized businesses. As far as Linux...the Linux providers are wrong - customer demand won't drive it, given that both RedHat and Novell have community-driven base versions. What can be seen happening is that developers who don't like Solaris see the opportunity to use some still decent hardware...and will get the port done in the base Linux distros. Once available, the usage will come. Again, it will be OpenSolaris, then ports of Linux, fed by the reuse of the glut of good Sun hardware that's out there.

NOTE: this won't start out good for Sun, because it's not going to begin with new hardware purchases. But eventually some of these startups may grow and need to upgrade/expand their hw. I see this being a cost center for 2 years out, then starting to feed hardware sales.
