Not gonna happen
We'll have to wait and see where things are in 2009 as far as
common technology, but I have a hard time believing this will
ever happen. No Congressman in his right mind wants to run
for re-election as "the guy who broke your television". So if
things are in a state similar to what they are now, Congress will
vote (once again) to put this off for a few more years.

No Ax, you might have a few thousand dollars to drop on a new
digital/high def tv set, but this is not the case for the vast
majority of Americans. I can see this upsetting a lot of people
and given the sucking up to the polls done by our
representatives, that's the last thing they want to do.
