Qualify that.
While Dell does have a good advertising campaign, there are certain merits that Dell does have over every other PC OEM out there.

1.) You have the option for a clean OS CD. Other companies, such as Emachines, ship with a DVD that, should you ever need to reformat, will install Windows AND every piece of bloatware you wanted to get rid of.

2.) Good support agents. Bashing support agents because they're from India is nothing short from racism. The worst support I ever got from Dell sounded like some Southern Baptist lady who was just about to get off work before I came in and called. That said, every other chat/phone support conversation I've ever had with Dell has been excellent.

3.) Good self-support. Go to HP or Compaq's website, and see if they've got ALL of your computer's drivers. It seems like something EVERY damned OEM should have, drivers for every major OS, but lo and behold, some of 'em don't. How retarded.

4.) It isn't proprietary. If it is, curse me and my self-installed X800 XL, two hard drives, 2 GB of RAM, a DVD burner, a new power supply and a new processor.
