- RE: Apple's SCI-FI

>I won?t be surprised if the university will sell ALL G5 and won?t buy any Apple machines.
>Why? Because G5 is not the fastest computer.
>Application tests (Macworld journal, Dec. 2003, p. 60) - Single CPU Alienware vs. Dual G5 2 GHz:
So many things that misplace your argument... first of all, the discussion is concerning supercomputing performance. Apparently in that realm the G5 is performing incredibly well, beating out several contenders using more processors with higher clock speeds.
Secondly, I don't just like Macs, I like computers in general. I like Windows-based PCs, I like Linux, I like Macs, I like game consoles. I love it all. I use Macs and Windows machines every single day. Instead of being a senseless zealot I've always tended to be the type of person who likes the right machine for the job.
As for the comparisons you mentioned above, especially noting the Alienware comparison, great for them! I love Alienware machines and I wouldn't expect an Apple box to compete with them in any gaming category (that's where the Alienware machine really beat out not only the G5, but just about every other machine it was compared to, even other Windows-based pcs.) But even then, the Alienware that was tested in a lot of these was not cheaper than a dual 2GHz G5. It's right at the same price (I believe the standard setup of this particular Alienware was just a hair under $3200) and the Alienware that really took top honors had a lot of extra goods, like 256MB video card, a RAID setup and more. Looking at the same reports I can see areas the G5 beat the Alienware out, and areas the G5 beat other PCs out, and areas where other PCs beat the G5 out... so what's the point?
>If Macworld journal is too expensive for you?
