AMD is toying with Intel.
If they had the ability to produce enough chips, they could take the market.

Intel has reached limits on performance as their chips run at speeds about to top out. AMD on the other hand has the ability to push their chips faster and faster since they only run at about 60% the speed of Intel.

Every faster performing chip Intel can come out with, AMD ups their clock speed by 100 to 200 MHz and Intel is in the hole again.

If AMD can get production numbers up, they can encrease a full GHz and Intel has no way to compete performance wise.
