I Checked Into The Speed Issue . . .
when i bought my digital camera (canon digital rebel) i checked into the speed issue and the microdrives tested slower than write accelerated cf. the only remaining advantage of the microdrives (att) was cost--just in december i spend $340+ for only 1 gig (2x512's) of cf, as compared to $499 for 4 gig of microdrive.

as for the op's "what's the point?" comment: i often shot 40-50 rolls of film on a single trip. at the highest resolution setting on my camera, i can fit only 140 or so images on 512 mb. that means the hassle of having a lot of cf to juggle around, or having some means to store the files. a 4 gb drive can hold about 48 rolls of film at highest resolution setting. that would be very nice. only two issues to consider for me:

1. will this drive work with my camera? the manual says 2 gb max.

2. i'm averse to risking 40-50 rolls of film (equivalent) from a 3-4 week shooting trip to one device that just might fail. sad

regardless, i find the tech exciting.
