I've reading a lot of posts on ZDNet, and too many of them are flames from people who don't know what they're talking about. Thanks for this informative, analyical post.

People have been writing off both RISC processors and Sun for quite a while. But, based on your arguments about RISC processor (and they are very convincing arguments), it looks like to me that RISC still has a solid future, on the high end of the market.

Sun, too, has a promissing future. They've put in tons of R&D, and I'm bound to think that this will pay off. And they are finally getting out of the Solaris/Sparc only mindset, to respond to market demands, and offering x86/Linux solutions. And they have a ton of solid software offerings beyond Solaris, not the least of which is Java/J2EE (which they still need to figure out how to make more money on).
