MS and Swap Files
The NAND memory is usually rated for 2M write cycles. The older NOR memory is rated at 300K-500K. NanoTube (NRAM) memory has not been released to the public yet (to my knowledge).

As far as Swap space, yes, this is my one gaping concern. Actually, depending on your OS, RAM capacity, and OS load, you may not need a swap file at all. I do do this with MS OS's with no adverse effects, sometimes even fixing some Windows performance problems. For what I'd consider a typical home computer system, these are guidelines I use for minimum RAM requirements for setting Windows to disable swap file:
9x: 256 MB
2K: 512 MB
XP: 1 GB

This is not any professional quote or recommendation, just what I've personally come up with through experience, trial and error.

Obviously, people have different requirements. People who do a lot of media processing and DB crunching at the same time will probably need to double those numbers, so your milage may vary.

Anyway, I'm just saying that not everything Redmond boys say is gospel; with enough resources, Windows runs just fine without a swap file. This is obviously a very valid issue if anyone plans to run MS OS's off a flash drive of current technology.
