Article factually wrong
Numerous factual errors, as ZDNet went for effect rather than accuracy, and they completely invalidate the article. One: TiVo CANNOT "tell what has been watched on a particular TiVo, down to the second" (unless you've opted in to a special program). TiVo designed their system so they cannot even respond to a law enforcement subpoena for user log data. Account information and anonymous data logs are sent by the user to different computers, and are never in the same place at the same time.
Two: suggesting other shows is done entirely on the user's machine; it is not done at TiVo headquarters - TiVo has no knowledge of what shows a user watches.
Read the white paper on TiVo's privacy page to see what lengths TiVo has gone through to guarantee nobody at TiVo has access to a particular user log data.
Other news organizations got the technical facts right, why didn't ZDNet (CNET)?
