Oh, I don't know if I would make fun of the paperless office. While paper is not totally gone at the office, as I do carry a notebook around with me, as far as projects, the last one I did, I took my laptop out onto the manufacturing floor, entered my experiment data into the analysis program, imported the graphs into powerpoint, which I then e-mailed to the group, and presented at the meeting, with a direct video projector plug connection to my laptop. No paper involved at all. And by the way, the networked printer in my cubicle farm area, always seems to be on "power saver" whenever I do happen to print something.

Also, arguing that people aren't going to take advantage of new technology, because they are comfortable with what they already have, does not seem to be bourne out historically. If that were the case, we'de still be washing clothes with a washboard, and taking all of our photos using film.

Do manufacturers need to make this stuff simple? Sure, the blinking VCR timer bears that out, but it is clear to me that the future is the merging of the entertainment and productivity devices that are in most homes of developed countries, and those that don't get on board, will IMO, undoubtedly be left behind.
