What about cost?
It wasn't mentioned in the article. I remeber reading that it wasn't important who made the first viable robot, but rather who could produce them inexpensively in volume. Henry Ford didn't invent the car. He invented the assembly line needed to produce cars people could reasonably afford. Although they were too expensive for many Americans, there were plenty of people who could. Enough to make Ford and his family rich forever.
