A few comments on what is "good" architecture for the future
EPIC is decent for the __single__ thread type of workloads where the ILP becomes as explicit as possible by the compiler and simpler h/w fires instruction bundles as fast as possible.

EPIC and itanium is not good for multi-threaded workloads or in server environements where there are many interrupts or syscalls / sec.

SUN is targeting that environment exactly with their Niagara chip.

A good chip is Power5 (and Power 4) as it can handle both single and multi-threaded workloads very comfortably.
